The School of Agriculture, Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda, celebrated National Honey Bee Day on 13 August 2026 with great enthusiasm to create awareness among B. Sc (Hons) Agriculture students about the vital role of honey bees in agriculture, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability. The programme featured an engaging student awareness act on honey bee conservation, highlighting the harmful effects of excessive and indiscriminate use of pesticides on honey bees and other beneficial pollinators. The activity effectively conveyed the importance of protecting honey bees for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring sustainable agricultural production. Respected Dr. Narinder Singh Sidhu, Principal, and Dr. Surbhi Sharma, Head, School of Agriculture, graced the occasion and encouraged the students to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives. Certificates were distributed to the students who participated in the awareness activity. An informative lecture on the importance, conservation, and ecological significance of honey bees was delivered by Dr. Harpreet Kaur, who sensitised the students about the need to adopt pollinator-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices. The event was coordinated with the support of Dr. Poonam Burman, Assistant Dean, Student Welfare Cell, who emphasised the role of students in spreading awareness about environmental protection and responsible agricultural practices. The programme successfully encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices and reinforced the message that protecting pollinators is essential for a sustainable future.
