The Educational policy of BFGI is not only confined to deal with prescribed course work, but also to make efforts from time to time to provide its students with an opportunity to interact with enlightened scholars from varied fields. Keeping this in mind, the department of Applied Sciences Baba Farid College Of Engg. & Technology Bathinda, organized an Expert Lecture on “Rational Thinking” by Mr. Rajpal Singh from (Govt. Sen. Sec. School, Hari Nau) on 21st Feb, 2012. While speaking on this occasion, Mr. Rajpal Singh explained the value of rational thinking.

Resource person will be Sh. Ranjeet Singh G.Z.S. College of Engineering & Technology (Bathinda).
ASSERT student body of Department of Applied Sciences organized a function with the aim of promoting scientific and rational thinking under the title of "Waves 2010"
ASSERT a student body of B.Tech 1st sem, Department of Applied Sciences, Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda, organized a function with the aim of promoting scientific and rational thinking under the title of “Waves 2010” on 14th October, 2010. S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Managing-Director, BFGI, gave a warm welcome to the Chief-Guest Mr. Raj Paul Singh, an eminent educationist and rationalist and other dignitaries. He encouraged against drug abuse, he also added that in BFGI, Social Welfare Society has been established with the motive to eradicate various social evils with the help of education like drug addiction, female feticide etc. Mrs. Parmjeet Kaur Dhaliwal, Director Administration, BFGI also added charm to the function with her benign presence.
More than 100 students of B.Tech 1st, batch 2010 participated enthusiastically in various competitive events like power Point Presentations, Debate, Quiz Competitions and Drama. Through Drama the students made a little effort to motivate the youngsters to stay away from the evil of drug addiction. The Chief organizers of the function was Prof. Sunil Joshi ( Lect. In Chemistry). Prof. Kuljit Kaur ( Lecturer in Communication Skills) and Prof. Ramandeep Kaur ( Lect. in Communication Skills). The stage was conducted by Prof Ramandeep Kaur.
Speaking on this occasion, Director-Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh Hundal expressed his views about the importance of Science and conveyed a message to the students to free themselves from the shackles of superstitions and adopt Scientific and Rational thinking.
The main attraction of the function was a lecture by Mr. Raj Paul Singh, worthy guest of the day, on Scientific and Rational Thinking. He insisted that both Science and Religion are equally important but the need of the hour is to adopt rational thinking. He added that discoveries and inventions call for scientific and rational thinking and human beings should listen to this call. He expressed that even in this age of Science and technology, inspite of being educated people are still sticked to outdated dogmas and orthodox beliefs, there is dire need to shun such beliefs. After concluding his lecture, he answered queries of students.
Along with the commendable participation of the students, Prof. BS Brar, Head, Department of Applied Sciences acquainted the gathering with the aims and functions of ASSERT. He also introduced the positive steps taken by ASSERT to create rational thinking in the young minds. He expressed his views that discoveries and inventions are related to scientific thinking. Their development will lead to the development of scientific and rational thinking. More and more efforts should be made for the advancement of sciences. At the end of the function prizes were given away to the winners in various events by the Chief-Guest. Ankit Sharma and Kamaljeet Singh, students of ECE, bagged first prize in Power Point Presentation, Avantika Tiwari and Sheenam from CSE branch, were the winners of Debate competition and Quiz competition was won by Manpreet Kaur and Rupam from EE branch. Prof. BS Brar thanked all the students and Faculty members who made tireless efforts to make this function a successful event.
Applied Science Department Oranized the Inaugural Function of the ASSERT
The Association of Students for Scientific Education & Rational Thinking (ASSERT) has been formed by the B.Tech students of Ist semester of the Department of Applied Sciences, Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda. The Inaugural Function of the ASSERT has been organized on 15th October, 2009 in the seminar hall of the institute. The theme of the ASSERT is to promote the basic Sciences which form the basis of Engineering & Technology, and the cultivation of scientific and rational thinking. A Quiz competition on scientific approach was organized. A total of 5 teams participated in the quiz among which WATER team of B.Tech (CSE), Ist semester stood first and SOIL team of B.Tech (IT), Ist semester bagged the second prize. A Presentation on Global Warming was presented by Ms. Arman Jaura and Mr. Manjinder Singh. A skit was performed to aware the students about the rational thinking. Mr. Phankar Sharma student of Computer Science and Engineering and Mr. Harpreet Singh of Mechanical Engineering showed their talent and entertained the audience by singing songs.
In his key note address, Prof Balwinder Singh Brar, Head, Department of Applied Sciences stressed that ASSERT was formulated to give the students an opportunity to express their executive skills, and also explained the importance of the basic sciences in structuring the skilled engineers. He also stressed on how students can be involved in more and more extra –curricular academic activities to make them more confident in facing the current competitions and global challenges.
In a message, Dr. Jasbir Singh Hundal, Director –Principal of BFCET wished the function to a grand success and appreciated the ASSERT to spread awareness among students about rational thinking.
The chief patron of the association, Sh. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, BFCET conveyed his best wishes to the ASSERT and appreciated the efforts made by the budding engineering. He also congratulated the students to make the society superstition free and emphasized on the need to develop scientific and rational thinking among the budding engineers. He congratulated the students, faculty of the department of applied sciences on their initiative and wished them all success in their future endeavors. |
